Pandiyanadu is the ancient southern region of Divya Desams, sacred to Lord Vishnu and glorified by Nammalwar, Periyalwar, Andal, and Thirumangai Alwar.
Pandiyanadu, revered as the Ancient Southern Land of Divya Desams, is the sacred region associated with the legacy of the Pandya kings and holds a prominent place in Sri Vaishnava tradition. Situated in present-day southern Tamil Nadu, this region is among the most extensively glorified areas in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham.
The Moolavar worshipped in the Pandiyanadu Divya Desams is Lord Vishnu, revered as Sri Kallazhagar Perumal and Sri Narayana Perumal. The presiding Thayar of Pandiyanadu is Sri Sundaravalli Thayar, who eternally accompanies the Lord and blesses devotees with divine grace.
The Divya Desams of Pandiyanadu were glorified through Mangalasasanam by several eminent Alwars, including Nammalwar, Periyalwar, Andal, and Thirumangai Alwar. Nammalwar, the foremost among the Alwars, sang extensively in praise of the Pandiyanadu Divya Desams, including Thirukkurungudi, Thirumogur, Thiruppullani, Thiruvanparisaram, and other sacred kshetrams.
Periyalwar and Andal, who were closely associated with the Pandya region, rendered pasurams expressing deep maternal and bridal devotion toward Lord Vishnu, enriching the devotional legacy of Pandiyanadu. Thirumangai Alwar also performed Mangalasasanam on several Pandiyanadu Divya Desams, describing their sacred geography, kings, and temple traditions.
Due to the combined devotional contributions of these Alwars, Pandiyanadu stands as one of the most spiritually significant regions among the Divya Desams, distinguished by its rich hymnological heritage and enduring Vaishnava tradition.
